Several years ago we built the fire pit and added pea gravel to a muddy corner of the yard.
What kind of gravel do you use for a fire pit.
Shovel four inches of gravel and four inches of sand then tamp each layer flat and level.
Adding gravel on top of the compacted dirt will create a base for your fire pit.
So during my aha moment i decided to place the pavers from the front yard around the fire pit fill it in with pea gravel and then add some chairs for seating.
Pea gravel is much easier in comparison.

You will also need to decide whether you want an above ground or below ground fire pit and how you are going to build it.

For each course i used 12 traps and 12 minis for a total of 48 trapezoid blocks and 48 mini blocks.
Arrange the stones in a circle to make the fire ring on top of your gravel and sand base making sure that your first layer of blocks is secure and level.
For this fire pit i used the rumblestone pavers from home depot.
The fire sand helps with overall gas dispersion to create a more uniform flame.
